Mevion Medical Systems signed an agreement with Chung Shan Medical University Hospital and ASYS Corp for proton therapy market

Proton Therapy Market

The rising prevalence of cancer is fostering the growth of the global proton therapy market. According to the World Health Organization, around 18.1 million new cases and 9.6 million deaths were registered due to cancer worldwide in the year 2018. A growing number of healthcare facilities that offer proton therapy is again contributing to the growth of the market. For example, in February 2020, Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the OSF HealthCare plan to construct a cancer care center that offers proton-beam therapy. Major players are focusing on expanding their presence across emerging economies which is further expected to accelerate the growth of the proton therapy market. For instance, in February 2020, Ion Beam Applications S.A. signed a contract to install a ProteusONE compact proton therapy solution at the RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Presidential Hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In November 2019, Mevion Medical Systems signed an agreement with Chung Shan Medical University Hospital and ASYS Corp to provide advanced proton therapy in Central Taiwan.

In March 2020, Stantec, a design and construction firm, delivered Johns Hopkins Hospital (U.S.) a new medical facility devoted specifically to proton therapy

In February 2021, Varian has started the installation of the cyclotron and gantry for its ProBeam® 360° single-room proton therapy system at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health's Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute

North America is expected to hold a dominant position in the global proton therapy market in the near future and this is attributed to an increasing partnership among key players in the region. For instance, in January 2020, Ion Beam Applications S.A. entered into partnership with International Charity Foundation Cartu to install a ProteusONE solution in Georgia (U.S.)

In the world of medical therapy, proton therapy, also known as proton therapy or proton radiography, is a form of electromagnetic radiation therapy which uses an electric beam of protons to target diseased tissue. It has been found that by using the therapy, the number of cancer cells reduces more quickly and effectively than the use of chemotherapy alone. This therapy also stimulates the immune system. Radiosurgery has replaced many operations and is preferred over surgery, not only because it is less expensive but also because it is safer. The procedure is very effective in treating malignant tumors, with the use of contrast agents and additional measures before surgery.
